Ella H ScharringHausen wrote the original Footprints poem on June 6, 1922  Ella was a Sunday school teacher and Princeton educator who helped found and erect the Hopewell Public Library and Hopewell Museum 1921-1922 in Hopewell, New Jersey. Her version of the footprints in the sand poem was considered the less popular version of the footprints poem. Ella was married to Robert Louis Scharring-Hausen author, publisher and nature columnist.
